Oils on stretched canvas. 20In 2008, there was an exhibition in Belfast called ‘Slant’ for which artists were called upon to re-interpret a famous painting of their choice [you can read more about the exhibition here]. I picked Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks and completed my version for the show in acrylics on paper. I had already decided to do a larger version in oils and I finished this late last year.

If you’re familiar with Baggot Street Lower and Ismael’s, then you’ll probably deduce that when you view this painting, you’ll be standing outside Doheny & Nesbitt’s pub, probably with what’s left of a dark pint in your grip, won’t you? You’re in a disgraceful state and you’re getting a strong urge to stagger across the road for a doner kebab [that mighty and flavourful soaker-upper of beer].

Metaphysically speaking, of course, since you mightn’t make it in your condition.

Oils on canvas. 20 x 30 of your Earth inches.
