Care of Brushes

Good brushes are expensive and with good care, will last years.

DO wash brushes out thoroughly with soap and warm water at the end of each painting session. Wash until the water runs clear.

DO keep a bar of soap in a container handy just for washing brushes.

DO carry your brushes in a protective pouch or wallet.

DO store your brushes upended in a container, [hair to air!]

DO reshape the bristles of your brushes after washing them.

DON’T leave your brushes bristles-down in solvent or water at any time.

DON’T steep your brushes for lengthy periods in water -water can get between the ferrule [metal collar] and the wood of the handle and cause rot.

DON’T apply paint by jabbing at your canvas with your brush.

DON’T transport your brushes loose in a box with all your other materials rattling around.

DON’T allow acrylic paint to dry out on your brushes -the damage is irretrievable.
