At last week’s Art Fair, I performed a couple of demonstrations over two days. One was an alla prima painting one was a demonstration of imagination [I made it all up, illustration style!] and the third, shown here, is of the glazing technique, where translucent glazes are layered over a finished monochrome study. I suppose this technique is the least exciting one to watch in the initial stages -like watching paint dry, perhaps -but the magic does come at the end, when the tonal painting is transformed into colour.
You can see the set up about halfway through the movie below, which was taken by Ed Parkinson, who was also showing his work in the fair. He also very kindly took the trouble to fetch an extension lead from home when we discovered that we couldn’t get the lamps working. The art fair itself was wonderful and a real breath of fresh air after the RDS, which seems to me to have all the atmosphere of a cattle market. Karen Harper of Karen Harper Presents started her new venture with a splendid show in a setting that shows artists’ work off to best advantage.
